Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to every auction conducted by Direct Auction Galleries (“we”, “the gallery”). By registering to bid, in person or online, you accept them together with the specific terms published for each sale.

Bidding

  • Every lot is sold as is, where is. Previews are held before each sale and we strongly encourage you to examine lots in person; the catalogue photographs and descriptions are a guide, not a guarantee.
  • Bids may be placed in the room, as absentee bids left with the gallery, or online through this website. The auctioneer’s decision on any dispute is final.
  • First-time in-house bidders are asked for a $100 refundable cash deposit or a credit card on file, a copy of a driver’s licence or state ID, and a signed copy of these terms.

Buyer’s premium and tax

  • A 20% buyer’s premium is added to the hammer price for bids placed in person, by absentee bid, or through this website. Purchases made through third-party bidding platforms carry a 25% buyer’s premium.
  • Payments by credit card carry an additional 3% administrative fee.
  • Illinois sales tax (currently 10.25% in Chicago) applies to all purchases unless a valid resale certificate is on file.

Payment

  • We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, cash and cashier’s checks. Business and personal checks are accepted from established customers with a history of good payments.
  • Invoices are emailed after the sale and are due promptly. Please check your spam folder for mail from directauctiongalleries@gmail.com and mark us as a safe sender.

Shipping and pick-up

  • Getting your items from the gallery to you is the buyer’s responsibility. Lots marked “In-house shipping available” can be packed and shipped by us once the invoice is paid; lots marked “Third-party shipping required” must go through an outside shipper, and we are happy to recommend local shippers we trust.
  • Please make sure the shipping address on your bidder account is correct before the sale closes, and call us at (773) 465-3300 with any shipping questions.
